Stephen A., Max make their early NFL playoff predictions - First Take - ESPN

NBC gets nothing. Of course β€” the Saturday night game is not the highest rated timeslot of the weekend. I can see the Titans eliminating either the Texans or Chiefs. Every since the simulcast following the regular season, an AFC South team has been a participant in that slot. Amazing how I been a regular on here that long. Final note on Wildcard round. An AFC Match-up will be in this slot. Shocked by this schedule. I will say however that I see the Baltimore or Pittsburgh vs. That was a stunner. Now onto the match-up. Any shot the NFC title game gets flexed into the night game pending matchup? The only question is, who telecast it? Those are some very good match-ups and would be rematches as well. Them winning their division makes this an easy decision right? Rams being in LA will make it awkward for the schedule makers and possibly have some sort of consideration to have a FOX double-header on a Saturday or Sunday. The station that telecast this should be NBC. Same with the pro bowl. Minnesota or Philadelphia. I believe it can, but it would be a sacrifice. Cowboys would be too good for this slot. In the Divisional round, I was wrong on timeslots. I believe they felt it was best to stick with traditional timing and try not to do something different hopefully they can make those same decisions in other areas. I see that coming down to the New England Patriots. What we know now about the first round byes is that the Saints clinched home-field last Sunday. This is their Super Bowl year so they deserve the best slot they can get. Every home playoff game from the Houston Texans has been played in this slot. With that said, if Rams clinches 2 they should get this slot. Who gets the 5th seed will either be the Seahawks or 49ers depending on which team loses on SNF if the game ends in a tie then SF will be the 5th seed. Right now the Saints has the 3rd seed and we know for sure the Vikings will have the 6th seed. Eagles has no Carson Wentz. I do question the product in the Wildcard round on the NFC side because of the Seahawks and Vikings having injuries to some key players while the Eagles have underachieved. Instead they had it 2 prior to these playoffs. When CBS had this slot following the season, that was the only time in the expanded Wildcard era where two games from the same conference were played on each day of Wildcard weekend. Fox got the late game 5 weeks in a row how is that fair?? One team won double digit games but was down to their 3rd string QB while the other was a playoff team in which was a double whammy for ESPN then. If New England gets a Bye then this should be their slot.

They should follow the super bowl. It seems like there favoring Fox.

Hard to wonder why they made that decision. I was also correct with CBS slot and matchup as well. The AFC looks to be fun postseason throughout, especially if Tennessee is in the dance. It was the right decision because that was the best game of the entire Wildcard weekend and both teams had storylines coming in. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I believe the NFL put the Eagles in that slot to give Foles a full week to recover from his injury he sustained at Washington instead of giving him 6 days. Perfect on AFC Wildcard. Overall, I like the playoff setup. I have to say though, if the Rams beat the Falcons then that could hurt comeback to haunt them. The Patriots could play the Chiefs and that would be as premium as it can get. Could that happen again? The hunger and want to see Lamar Jackson will be presented here. Dallas Cowboys will have this timeslot. Any NFC matchup once again is too premium for this slot. These Week 17 games really matter and the league wants it to matter by making every game be a divisional one. The Eagles could be the 4th seed, but if they lose Week 17 and the Cowboys defeat the Redskins at home then there will be a January football game in North Texas. The Eagles would make sense playing in this slot vs. If they finish number two meaning the Packers won Week 17, while Seattle did indeed beat San Fran , then they would face either the Seahawks, Eagles, 49ers, or Cowboys. Green Bay hosting a playoff game during daylight at least in the First Quarter is very unique. Normally the late Sunday game is the most premium slot of the Wildcard and Divisional round. CBS has not had the late window on sunday other then the Conference championships in quite a view years now. I see this being the 4 vs. Was correct with teams and stations, but wrong with the timeslot. Four years ago CBS was in this slot. Time for me to grade my projections. Happy Holidays! However, the fun will begin in the Divisional round when the Patriots and Steelers are in action and if indeed KC and Jacksonville advances. I said NBC has had the eastern Saturday slot 3 of the 4 years. If they do the Sunday version, I think the is designated as the main game. Seems like with the Eagles playing on consecutive late Sunday Wildcard game shows how much the league values in them even over the mighty Patriots. If Houston loses and Indy or Tennessee hosts then I see them going to one of those cities. Vikings or Eagles or Seattle if that crazy situation happens. CBS had two divisional match-up and this timeslot was one of them 2. This was a no-brainer from the start. If the Saints make the NFC title game, they deserve to be in the later time slot. If Seattle wins, then Minnesota or Philadelphia will be 6. So much work to be done in the NFC side. If not, then this should be the Saints slot. That was on the same day where another NFC game was scheduled later that day. The rest is somewhat up for grabs. However, within the match-ups and the game of football itself, I am really excited for the NFC Playoffs. There are crazy scenarios that could exist on Sunday on the AFC side as you can tell. On top of that, they had some conflicts with the NFL during this decade. Will NBC get an extra game next season since they lost the last Sunday night game? I also made a mistake on the post. The game will be on NBC. Hard to believe that will be duplicated which means this will be an NFC Matchup. Instead it was a reverse. Of course I had to save the best for last. I believe the promise to FOX was Cowboys home game though, but the NFL saw that the reigning Super Bowl MVP health was probably more important than ratings and a main event like match-up of this weekend in its most rated timeslot. Maybe if NE doesnt get the bye? Instead I see it being the Bears or Rams vs. I believe it makes the most sense. The NFL alternates the early and late timeslot every year, and the network that loses a divisional game to NBC gets the late championship slot. Primetime game in New Orleans is always something special. CBS gets bad time slots throughout the playoffs. The 6th will be either Indianapolis, Tennessee, or in a weird way Baltimore they tie vs. But alas I am wrong. Being content means more than accepting this Saturday early game, but also the least intriguing of the four Wildcard matchup. This was by far the toughest projections I ever had to do. FOX will enjoy the honors of this game.
